caramel + chocolate covered pretzel sticks

What's the best way to kill time on a snowy winter day? This week it was spending seven hours in the kitchen making over 200 caramel + chocolate covered pretzel sticks with my dear mother-in-law for our closest family and friends. I have never met anyone who doesn't loooove these treats. What's not to love? Caramel? Check. Chocolate? Check. White chocolate drizzles? Check. Crushed up Oreos and Butterfingers? Mmmmmmm check.

Want the recipe? You got it.

1 cup Karo syrup
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup white sugar
1 cube butter
1 can sweetened condensed milk

1. Combine ingredients in saucepan over medium heat. Bring to boil and continue boiling for five minutes. Remove pan from heat and let caramel cool.

2. Dip pretzel rods into cooled caramel. Place on wax paper and let set it fridge for 15-20 minutes.

3. Melt one large bag of milk chocolate chips in large bowl. (I prefer using the glass bowl over a pot of boiling water method.) Dip caramel-covered rods in chocolate. Shake, spin, or wiggle rods to remove excess chocolate. Place on wax paper and let set in fridge for 15-20 minutes.
*If you want rods coated in crushed up candies, do so immediately after dipping in chocolate. Then place them in fridge until set.

4. Drizzle rods with white chocolate or any other delicious topping your little heart desires.

5. Give to loved ones as soon as possible before you, your spouse, or your sweet-toothed kids devour them first.

Yummmmy, right?

And look...still smiling at the end of the day.

These are one of my favorite Christmas treats, but I've never attempted making them myself. I usually just hope that someone gives me some every year. :)
