There are things I absolutely love about Texas. Like having parks on every corner (practically...they're like the Starbucks of the South). And lots of streams and creeks and ponds at said parks for my daughter to throw rocks into. And turtles in said ponds to dodge the rocks being thrown by my daughter. The fun really never ends with her.
There are also, however, things that I don't love about Texas. Like spiders. And bigger spiders. And sneaky spiders that bite you without your consent or knowledge. Like the brown recluse that bit my husband last week. Of course he only found out what it was after going to an urgent care clinic and having the bite drained and numbed and sliced open. Thanks, Texas. You've now upped my paranoia level to no bare feet inside the house ever and never getting another peaceful night's sleep due to spider nightmares and what's-under-the-sheets fears. Ugh.
In other news, I baked pies this weekend. Cherry pies. I volunteered to make them for a church activity, conveniently dodging the fact that I'd never made a pie before in my life. Hey, they had a secret recipe and I wanted it. And I'm proud to say it was a success. Unfortunately I wasn't allowed to feed even a single piece to my ailing husband before I had to take them away, so it looks like I'll be making another one again soon. It's okay though, because I'm basically a pie pro now.
How was your weekend? Any bug bites or dessert making in your neck of the woods?

I would say you are a pie pro... those look incredible!
parks are a plus for living in the south - i agree! those pies look so fantastic!
your pies look incredible. You have me drooling for one.
Also - grossest story ever about Clay and spiders. Disgusting. I'm so sorry - for everyone. Sick. I loathe spiders. Was it in your bed then? Did he see it?
So. Freaking. Gross.
ahhhh...now I'm feeling all itchy...
But i'm glad Clay is okay!
Haha I need the pie pros recipe! Can that be your next post? ;) I'm slowly but surely forcing myself to enjoy cooking, baking, etc. Is it weird to have a list for things you are forcing yourself to enjoy?? Haha. And poor clay...that sounds terrible!
That's so weird, I actually got a spider bite on my foot this week! But if it makes you feel better, I've lived in Texas for 22 years and that's the first time that's happened. Maybe Clay's good for the next 20.
