Name: Leigh Anne Wilkes
Blog address: http://www.yourhomebasedmom.com/
What characteristics do you love? I think if I had to pick one characteristic that is the most important to me it would be integrity. I strive always to be a woman of integrity, to be consistent in my actions, values and principles.
What are your most loved comfort foods? Comfort food for me usually reminds me of my childhood. Things my mother would make. Two of my favorite things my mother us to make were enchiladas and spaghetti. And nothing spells comfort more than a warm chocolate chip cookie. A glass of cold milk doesn’t hurt either!
What is your best go-to recipe? Hmm… this is a hard one since I have SO MANY recipes. Because I blog about food I am constantly trying new recipes so for me to make something more than once it has to be really good. My latest go to meal is one I make whenever I take a meal to a family, have last minute dinner company or just don’t know what else to fix . It is a yummy Baked Ziti with Spinach and Sausage.
Favorite beauty product? I have been using the same brand of mascara since high school – Maybelline Great Lash. I’ve tried dozens of others but keep coming back to Great Lash. Why mess with a good thing? No matter what your age a good skin care routine is a must. I am currently using a line of skin care that contains essential oils. The moisturizer has jasmine in it and smells like heaven!! I can’t wait to moisturize morning and night.
What movie could you watch over and over again? The only movie I watch over and over again is Pride & Prejudice. The Keira Knightly version and the BBC one. Love them both. I have my daughters addicted too. You can never have too much Mr. Darcy!
Do you have any bad habits? Absolutely – it depends on who you ask though as to what the bad habit is. If you ask my husband he’d tell you I leave the cap off the toothpaste and squeeze from the middle. Drives him crazy so we each have our own tube of toothpaste.
What’s your fail-proof cure for a bad day? Shopping. It works every time. A few hours of retail therapy will cure just about any bad day for me. I don’t really have to even buy much, just wandering and looking helps. It can be a walk through Anthropologie or a treasure hunt at Goodwill.
Where is your home away from home? Right now it is Provo, Utah. All four of my children are currently living in Provo. Two at BYU, one in law school and one is graduated and working in Provo. I manage to squeeze in a visit about every other month! Our other home away from home is our home on the Oregon Coast. We don’t get to spend nearly enough time there but when we do life is good!
Describe your favorite outfit: I am a cardigan addict/collector so any favorite outfit would probably include a cardigan (Don’t tell on me but I have over 50 cardigans in my closet!) I usually pair it with a fun little ruffly or embellished shirt or tee along with a pair of skinny jeans and some fun shoes. I love colored shoes. My mustard yellow ones are a favorite right now. They go with everything. I just bought a new pair of gray oxfords though which may quickly become my new favorite. Just throw on a scarf or a piece of statement jewelry and I am good to go – just about anywhere!
Who would you love to be stuck on an elevator with? I actually hope I am never stuck in an elevator because I am claustrophobic! So if I ever am it better be with an elevator repair man!
Why did you start your blog and what do you hope your readers get from it? My blog is four years old. When I started my blog I had no idea what I was doing. I actually went on Craig’s List to find someone to help me. I met him at a coffee shop. Kind of crazy when I think about it now. I started a blog because I thought it sounded like fun. Four years later it is still fun. The focus of my blog has evolved over those years and it has become a place for me to share everything I love. Everything pretty and delicious. If I love it – I blog about it. It may be food, parties, crafts, fashion, family, books, gardening etc. I just have to love it! My goal is always for my readers to leave my blog feeling happy and inspired. I want them to have the desire to try something new – whether it be a recipe or a craft and that they have the confidence that they can do it too. I just want them to feel happy for having visited.
You love her already, don't you? Thanks, Leigh Anne, for sharing a little bit of you with us. And I hope everyone has a great weekend preparing for the Halloween holiday on Monday!
